Hi there,

I am working with the model AEM3D and have two questions. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

1) I'm trying to simulate the process of an underflow turbidity current, so I am interested in using the underflow model  in order to obtain the best possible representation of the process. While reading the manual, I found the following information:

iunderflow, controls 2D underflow model overrides boundary condition files

0 = modelling of inflows with the underflow model

1 = where INFLOW_HEIGHT is specifed for a bc in the temporal boundary files the underflow model will be used

Does that mean that the underflow model is always active? Could you explain when it is important to use code “1” in this model?

2) I am also testing the effect of horizontal eddy diffusivity. Is this constant in SI units (m2/s) or is it different?

Thank you in advance

Carlos Mario

Hi Carlos,

Unfortunately the underflow model has never actually made it across from ELCOM to AEM3D.  We found it became less useful as computational improvements have made finer grids more practical.  I never got around to removing it from the manual sorry.

Diffusivities are in m2/s

Hi, Chris, thank you.
One more question, if you can help me. To simulate this underflow turbidity current, is it advisable to use the iclosure 6 model together with the benthic boundary layer model ibblmixing? I would appreciate any recommendations you can give me.
Thanks again!
