Hi,

A question about two switches in the AEM3D setup: irain and ievap_vol.

I was wondering whether they affect the associated heat flux from these processes, or if they only turn the mass balance terms on and off.

In other words, if I set irain = 0 and ievap_vol = 0, does that also remove the thermal effect of rain and evaporation, or does it only remove the volume change?

Also, could you please confirm what the default values are for these switches?

Cheers

Aidin

Hi Aidin,

if irain is 0 the no rain enters the domain even if given in bc files, when 0 it has no effect on thermodynamics, when 1 rain enters with temperature given by air temperature.  (default is 0).

If iheat is on the the thermodynamic effect of evaporation is always calculated even if ievap_vol is 0.  An ievap_vol of 0 just stops any volume being removed.  This is primarily used for when a water balance has been used for inflows which has ignored the evaporation.  Default is 1 (evaporation of volume occurs)

Wonderful! Thanks a lot Chris.
