Hi Chris

I tried to make an ice model, i think that i have done the correct settings in the run_aem3d.dat, such as:

Simulation module controls

1                                                           iice

…………………………………………………..

Model settings and controls

0.08                                                 mean_albedo    ????

0.08                                      Constant_snowice_albed

6.0                                               snow_vis_ext_k

3.75                                           blueice_vis_ext_k

1.5                                           whiteice_vis_ext_k

20                                                 snow_ir_ext_k

20                                              blueice_ir_ext_k

20                                             whiteice_ir_ext_k

………………………………………………………………

   Default (uniformly distributed) values                        !

3.0                                            DEFAULT_WTR_TEMP             ! Low Temperature

I doubt only for the value of  the parameter mean_albedo with the ???? (0.08) if is it logical.

At the infiles > meteo.dat, I have chosen low AIR_TEM (-7 OC), Low  SOLAR_RAD (10.000 w/m2) and in the same file (meteo.dat), I have added a last column for the Snow, (units: m/day). In the datablock.xml, I have added three GlobalVariables,  BLUEICE_DEPTH, WHITEICE_DEPTH and  SNOW_DEPTH. In the end of simulation I get logical values only for the  BLUEICE_DEPTH but don’t get any values for the WHITEICE_DEPTH, I actually get zero values and I would like to ask if this is normal. Maybe I send you the dat files to facilitate you. Also I don’t know the different between parameters BLUEICE_DEPTH and WHITEICE_DEPTH. I looked for in the user manual but I dint find something explanatory.  So in addition, I would Appreciated if you tell me some explanations about these two parameters.

Best Regards

Evangelos

Hi Evangelos,

mean_albedo will only be used when there is no ice on the water column.

Blue ice is formed by the direct freezing of the water, white ice is formed when enough snow falls onto the ice and the ice is unable to support the weight of the snow.

I'll send you a paper which details the model.
